What Can I Bring on the Comal River?

CITY ORDINANCE — CHAPTER 86.14
No Disposable Containers

Not allowed on the river:

  • Aluminum cans and plastic bottles
  • Glass bottles or containers
  • Styrofoam cups or coolers (State Law)
  • Zip-top bags and plastic baggies
  • Chip bags and food wrappers
  • Paper cups, napkins, or cardboard

Allowed on the river:

  • Reusable water bottles and tumblers
  • One 30qt cooler per person (must have locking lid)
  • Reusable snap-top food containers
  • Alcoholic beverages in reusable containers
GENERAL RIVER RULES
On The River
  • No glass of any kind on the river
  • No jumping from bridges
  • No guests under 4 years old
  • Respect other floaters — keep noise at a reasonable level
  • No littering — help us keep the Comal River clean
  • Violations can result in fines up to $500 and removal from the river

City park rangers and police officers actively enforce these rules on the river. Violations of the disposable container ordinance (Chapter 86.14) are subject to fines of up to $500. Your cooperation helps protect the Comal River for everyone.
