Our Story

It started the way most great Texas stories do. Someone came to New Braunfels on vacation and never really left. Our founder arrived in the late 1950s, fell in love with the Comal River, and decided this was exactly where he was supposed to be. What followed was decades of building something special on the banks of one of the most beautiful rivers in Texas.

In the 1960s, Landa RV Park was established, the only campground and RV park directly on the Comal River in New Braunfels, Texas. Guests would come from all over Texas to camp on the riverbank, and the Comal River became the center of everything.

The Guadalupe Chute, A Bold Venture

In the 1980s, the family set their sights on the Guadalupe River and built the Guadalupe Chute, a water park that went toe to toe with Schlitterbahn at a time when New Braunfels was becoming one of the premier water recreation destinations in Texas.

The centerpiece was something truly spectacular. Over 300 feet of slide cascading down the cliff side of the Guadalupe River, featuring not one but two full 360-degree loops, ending in a spring-fed pool at the bottom. It was the kind of ride that people still talk about decades later. The Guadalupe Chute closed in 1989, leaving behind nothing but legendary memories and more than a little envy from those of us who were born just a year too late to ride it.

River Rat River Rides, Where It All Began

In 1986, tube rentals on the Comal River began on the property adjacent to Landa RV Park under the name River Rat River Rides. The location was perfect, right at the very beginning of the Comal River, putting tubers in the water faster than anyone else in New Braunfels.

The name changed over the years, as businesses do, but the location, the mission, and the love for the Comal River never did. By the early 2000s the business had officially become Landa River Trips and the rest, as they say, is history.
