Can I bring my dog to the Comal River? It’s one of the most common questions we get, and the answer is yes. We just really love dogs, and we love seeing them come through. It brightens our day to stop for a moment and greet the furry friends who show up with our guests. We’re dog people ourselves, and we believe dogs are part of the family who should get to enjoy vacations and outings with the whole pack. Just be sure to follow proper dog safety so it’s a fun, safe trip for everyone.
Bring your dog (or dogs) on International Dog Day and every dog gets a free tube, as needed, with any paid tube rental. Normal hours, no reservation needed.
Float Together, or Just Hang Out on the Bank
Take your dog out for a full float on the Comal River, tube included on us. Or if your dog isn’t up for the whole trip, our property has over 1,400 feet of river frontage, plenty of room to just wade in, splash around, and relax on the bank together.
No reservation needed, just show up during normal hours. Doors open at 9 AM, last entry is 4 PM, and last shuttle out is 8 PM, same as every day.

Dog Safety Tips for the Comal River
Dogs are welcome on the river every day, not just Dog Day, but a few things here are non-negotiable for their safety.
- A life jacket is a must have, not optional. Even confident swimmers can get tired on a longer float, and a properly fitted jacket is the single best thing you can do for your dog’s safety on the water.
- Walk your dog around the Tube Chute. Every dog, every time. The Tube Chute is too dangerous for dogs to float through. It’s fast moving water with rocks, and it’s simply not worth the risk. Get out and walk your dog around it, then get back in downstream.
- Bring water for the long float. River water isn’t a substitute, and a float can run a few hours. Pack enough for your dog the same way you’d pack for yourself.
- Booties or paw protection make a real difference on the hot pavement in the parking lot and the rocks along the riverbed.
- Not every dog is a river dog. Some settle right in, others will want out of the tube five minutes in. Know your dog before committing to a full float.

Yes, on the river and on our property. New Braunfels city ordinance requires pets to be leashed and under control anytime you’re in parks or on trails, and that applies here too. Off-leash dogs are not allowed. Please pick up after your dog and be considerate of other guests.
